JAMES OMOKWE
The Benin Empire’s rich history and culture were nearly obliterated by the 1897 invasion, with its treasures stolen and its identity fragmented. As a filmmaker, I’ve always championed the importance of telling our own stories, rooted in our heritage and told by us. In today’s fast moving world, film remains a powerful time capsule, preserving the soul of our culture for future generations.
With Osamede, we are not just retelling history but are spotlighting the extraordinary journey of a female hero, reclaiming her rightful place in a society where women’s voices and images have often been overshadowed in a male-dominated world. This is a story of resilience, strength and empowerment. It is a gift and tribute to the Edo people and a legacy for all Nigerians and Africans all over the world.
James Omokwe is the founder and CEO of Feemo Vision Limited, a film and television production company focused on authentic African storytelling for local audiences and the diaspora.
A recent AMVCA winner and multiple nominee, as a producer and director, has been responsible for some of the biggest, long running shows on cable television such as Ajoche, Riona, Itura, Chetam and Diiche.
An Alumni of Theatre Arts from the University of Lagos, James’ vision of building an ecosystem for the film and TV space has been his goal; to create an enabling environment that serves as the springboard for future investment and growth in the TV and film space.
